1920-01-28-DK-001     From Foreign Office Copenhagen (Erik Scavenius) to Legation Paris (Herman Anker Bernhoft) [da de en]
Danish Armenophiles have requested that the Danish Parliament (Rigsdagen) urges the Danish government to direct a resolution of sympathy for the Armenians to the Supreme Council, i.e., the representatives of the USA, France, Great Britain, and Italy at the Paris Peace Conference, as it has happened in Switzerland. Danish Foreign Minister Erik Scavenius is strongly against such a step and asks the Danish envoy and representative at the Paris Peace Conference, Herman Anker Bernhoft, to provide him with information to support his position. 1920-02-03-DK-001     From Legation Paris (Herman Anker Bernhoft) to Foreign Office Copenhagen (Erik Scavenius) [da de en]
The Danish diplomatic minister in Paris and representative of the Danish government at the Paris Peace Conference, Herman Anker Bernhoft, reports on the question of independence of the Caucasian republics that has been raised at the ongoing peace negotiations in the French capital. According to Bernhoft, while the Armenian Republic has been formally recognized, it is at this point highly doubtful if any part of Ottoman Armenia will come under Armenian control, not least because of the ”terrible depopulation”of Ottoman Armenia that has left Armenians there as a vulnerable minority vis-à-vis other populations of the region.
