Vartouhi's father was in prison, when she was deported with the rest of Armenian people of her native town. On the road, men were separated from their families and killed in front of them. Her father was killed two hours far from the city.
A gendarm who was in charge to protect the caravan took Vartouhi to his village and married her. Vartouhi could not endure this life with a man who had killed so many of her nation. She asked him to take her mother to his house. He went to Paloo and looked for her mother. During his absence she fled to Mardin and with the help of the Armenian priest she came to Hassitshe.
Our agent met her there and sent her directly to us.
As far as we know she has no relatives here in Syria.
Left our care: February 14, 1925. Relatives in Beyrouth. |
