Vahan's parents died before the war. He was supported by his uncle. When the deportation started his uncle fled to Russia. Vahan was exiled with his uncle's wife to Tshabaghtshoor. His aunt died there. After his aunt's death Vahan returned to his village and lived with a Turkish family for 7 years being their shepherd all these years.
When Armenians were allowed to travel in Turkey, he fled from his master joined a party of Greeks going to Aleppo and so he succeeded leaving Turkey.
His uncles Missak and Avedis are in America.
Vahan was received in the orphanage of the Near East Relief.
