His father was a soldier in the Turkish army and fought against the English army in the Dardanelles when Armenians were deported from Ak-Seraï.
Haroutioune was deported with his step-mother, his sister and brother. On the road his mother and sister became ill and died. His brother was somehow lost and he came alone to El-Hamman. There an Arab from a nomadic Anaze tribe took him to his tent and Haroutioune live nine years there being a camel driver.
Haroutioune was getting tired of this job and fled to Der-el-Zor hoping to find a better work there. He was recognized by some Armenians there and sent by our agent to our Reception house.
