Father
was a soldier in the Turkish Army and disappeared. He himself was deported with his mother
towards Mardin. Many thousands of Armenians were in the caravan. Hagop
remember, how they almost every day were attacked by Arabs and Kurds, who
robbed and killed and always dragged some women and girls with them. One day
his mother also was taken away, and the poor boy remained alone in the caravan.
One
day he himself was taken by a Kurd named Ahmed. By that man he was treated as a
slave and was often beaten cruelly. Once his right eye was hurt in that way,
that he got blind on it. 13 years he stayed by that man, then he met with some
muleteers, who helped him to flee to our rescue-home.
Hagop’s eyes were very bad, when he
arrived here. He had an operation on them.
