Megrditch
was deported from his native town together with his parents and his two
brothers. Walking they passed the towns, Erzingian, Kemakh, Harpoot, Diarbekir,
Severek and finally arrived to Urfa. His mother died on the road. In Harpoot
the Turkish gendarms took the father away. He never returned. After a few days
rest in Urfa the remainder of the caravan was sent further on to Surudj. On
their way, a Kurd came and took Megrditch out of the caravan. He brought him to
his village where he kept him as his servant. His two brothers were driven
further on. Megrditch was working until lately on the Kurd's farm. A year ago
he bought an Armenian girl for 200 Medjidis (£ 18). This girl had been kept in
another Kurdish family since the deportation. Megrditch married the girl and
has had a child in this marriage. Lately he was informed that the Kurds planned
to take his wife away from him. He immediately fled at night and crossed the
frontier. One of our agents helped them to fet to Aleppo.
