When the Turk's besieged Kars, Kevork lost his parents.
He was taken prisoner of war with about 200 Armenians by the Turkish army. All
of them were deported to the region of Sari Kamish, where they had to build
roads for the army. After some months they were taken to Hassan-Kale, from
there Kevork managed to flee. He reached Erzeroum. There he became a garçon in
a Turkish coffee-house. Of course he did not confess his religion or nation but
he was always afraid that they would recognize him as an Armenian and so he
fled with some other people to Lidje. There he remained six years. Once he came
to Diarbekir he heard about the Armenians in Syria. He went to Mardin and from
there to Hassitshe. Our agent of this town met him there. He helped him to go
to our rescue-home in Aleppo.
