Before the war his father
became ill and died. When the deportation started Mardiros also was deported
with his mother. When the caravan came near Mardin, there he lost his mother.
An Arab took Mardiros to his house as a servant. He remained there 11 years,
but when he heard that many Armenians still were living in Aleppo, he fled to
Ras-el-Ain from where by our agents he was sent to our rescue-house.
