Her father was a soldier in the Turkish army when Armenians were deported. Hovhannes with his mother and brother were deported to the Ras-el-Ain region. Arriving in the town his mother became ill and died a few days afterwards.

            Hovhannes and his brother were working in different Moslem houses in order to earn their living. After some time he was sent to a village named Miadoon, where he lived nine years as a shepherd. His elder brother was taken to an Arab family in Khaboor but Hovhannes never got any news from him.

            Once an Armenian chauffeur was passing near his village, Hovhannes asked him to take him to Aleppo, hoping to locate some relatives.

            Having no relatives and no money to live on, he came to us.

Found relatives and joined those.
