PICTURE

Hovhannes was living with his uncle in a little town named Boolanik, about six hours far from his native town when the Armenian massacre was ordered by the Turkish government.

His father was killed in the beginning of the deportations. Not long afterwards his uncle with the whole family were deported too. Hovhannes followed them but never got any news from his mother, sister and father.

On the road the caravan became smaller and smaller, many died from starvation and sickness, good many were killed by Turkish gendarms. He himself went to Biredjik and worked nine years there for a miller.

An Armenian serving in the French army saw him and brought him to Syria. His mother seems to be here in Syria. Having no relatives and no money to live on we took him in until relatives can be located.
