Mardiros'
father was killed in the beginning of the war. He himself was exiled with his
mother and two brothers. His mother could not stand the sufferings on the road.
She became ill and died from starvation and disease. His elder brother was
killed in Abu-Kemal. His little brother disappeared. He himself was one day
taken by an Arab and had to work hard for that man twelve years. Mardiros
always wanted to get away but where to flee? He was always told that all
Armenians were killed. Once our agent from Hassitshe met with him and told him
the contrary. How happy Mardiros was to learn that of course he immediately
followed the agent and one day he arrived in our home.
