Vartouhi's father was a soldier in the Turkish army when she was deported with her mother and sister to Biredjik. In this town a Kourd took her to his house and she ignores what became of her mother and sister.

Vartouhi was in Demir-Baji for seven years. She was told that there were no Armenians alive, she believed that seven years. Once coming to Biredjik in business she met the Armenian priest of this town who told her that there are many Armenians alive and orphanages to care for these who had lost their relatives. Her national feelings were still alive in her and she decided to come back to her people by any means. The priest helped her to flee and she came to us on November 17.

Vartoohi learned embroidery and became selfsupporting.
