Her father was a soldier in the Turkish army when the war started. Mariam was deported with her mother and brother until Severek. In this town, Mariam was taken to a Turkish house as a maid-servant.
Sometime after the Armistice the Turkish family was going to Diarbeker. They wanted to take Mariam with them. When Mariam's aunt heard about it she advised the girl to flee. Mariam fled at night time to her aunt's house but the Turk followed her. Mariam could not remain with her aunt but had to flee. So, one night she fled to Urfa and from there to Aleppo.
She was received here November 21, 1922.
Mariam found her relatives here and went to live with them.
