The whole of Sarkis' relatives
perished in the desert near Mosul. He himself was taken by an Arab, whose tent
was in the interior of the desert. Sarkis grew up as a wild Arab among the
savage tribes. One day he came with his tribe near Ras-el-Ain to pass the
summertime there. One morning our agent saw two men disputing with each other.
One of them was condemning the other, calling him "Armenian pig." Our
agent profiting by the opportunity returned Sarkis to his own nation. He is a
grown up boy. We shall try to find some business for him, so that he may be
able to earn his daily bread.
