When the deportation started his father was a soldier in the Turkish army. Garabed was deported with his mother and sister. In Diarbeker his mother became ill and died. Garabed and his sister were sent further on. After a long walk they came to Harpoot. His sister died there.

            Garabed went to a Turkish house and became a servant. After six years of service he fled to Diarbekir. There he lived three years with a blind woman. During the Armenian emigration he joined a caravan and came with Armenian refugees to Aleppo.

Has no relatives.

            Garabed's eyes were in a very bad condition and he was threatened with blindness. After having been tended in 10 months, his eyes are so much better that he can earn his living, although he was not able to learn a trade.
