During the war her father was killed. She and her mother and sisters were deported. On the road she was taken away from her relatives, and brought to a Kourdish family. One year later a policeman took her from there and brought her to Marash where she lived several years as his servant. She was very illtreated by her mistress and so she decided to flee.

            Vartanoush fled to an Armenian family who helped her on her way to Aleppo.
