Chenum was married in Urfa, when the presecutions broke
out there, and had three children. Her husband was killed. She was deported
together with his relatives and her own sister. They were sent over Diarbekir
to Mardin. Her youngest child died on the road. The Kurds took one little boy,
the same happened to her sister. She was now alone with her eldest son, David,
and a sister-in-law. Finally she became so exhausted that she could walk no
longer, then a Kurd carried her away. David remained in the caravan. For a long
time she lost sight of all her people, but her mother and sister had been able
to save their life and to return to their own people, and we could save little
David, No. 297. He is now a prosperous young man in Beirut. Finally her
whereabouts were discovered too, and our agent brought her out.
They are now
all living in Beirut.
Left our care: April 7,
1928. Handed her over to her sister, who had come from Beirut to receive her.
