His father was killed during the Urfa rebellion. His brother being ill was admitted in the Swiss Hospital. About one month later Urfa people were deported to the Der-el-Zor region and Mardiros with his sister too.
In Der-el-Zor an Arab took him to his house and kept him nine years as his servant. His sister was sent further on to Hassitshe and was very probably massacred with other Armenians.
Mardiros desired to return to his nation. He wanted to learn a trade and not remain a servant for the rest of his life. He asked the Arab to let him go to look for relatives. The Arab gave him the permission to go and Mardiros came to our agent in Der-el-Zor who sent him to us.
Has his uncle in Syria.
