When the deportation started
the whole family was exiled in the direction of Meadin. Near Deir-el-Zor, the
gendarms separated the men from the caravan and sent them in an unknown
direction. Among them was also Yevpime's father. What became of him at least,
is not certainly known. The mother, in order to save her children from further
sufferings, left Yevpime in the charge of an Arab, and her two sisters she gave
to a Turk and set forth with the caravan, bidding them the final farewell. By
the Turk her sisters were ill-treated and exiled again, but the Arab kept
Yevpime and took care of her as his child, till she had the opportunity to
return to her own nation.
