Hovhannes' mother died before the Great War. His father
was deported with his four children, two sons and two daughters. The little
brother became tired and stopped. The gendarms beat him but there was nothing
to do, he could not go any further. The next day his father was killed. The
caravan reached Hekim Khan. There his two sisters died suddenly. The poor boy
was now living alone among all the thousands of Armenians. After some days, a
Kurd took him to his village. After nine years of slavery he fled to a village
Cafolar and worked as a shepherd until few days ago. Then he met with a
muleteer, who told him about our work and persuaded him to follow him. He did
so and one day he arrived safely by us.
