His father was killed in the beginning of the war. His mother fled with him to Diarbekir. There the government got hold of them and his mother was killed. Hovhannes fled and reached his native village. Two years after he returned to Diarbekir, where a Turk took him in his house as a servant. Newly, when the Turk would force him to embrace Islam, he fled and reached Hassitshe, from whence by our agent he was sent further on to our rescue-home in Aleppo.
