Garabed was about 7 years old, when he was exiled with his mother and sister. The father was kiled before the deportation. 

                  The caravan came near Ras-el-Ain there Garabed was taken by an Arab. He remained with him two years, then fled to another village, where he lived 8 years. He then fled to Ras-el-Ain, where our helper sent him on to us.
