Garabed does not remember the name of his native town. He only knows that he was deported with his mother, father and sisters to Bab. An Arab from there took his sister by force and married her. His father died a few days later.

After a stay of two months in Bab, they were sent on to Djisire. There another Arab married his mother and took his second sister with him. Garabed was left all alone in the village.

However, an Arab from Roomanie saw Garabed and pittied him. He took him to his house and adopted him as his son. Garabed remained ten years in the Arab's house. About three months ago an Assyrian officer came to the village on business. He recognized Garabed as an Armenian and he took him to his house. During the time Garabed was in the officer's house, he fell from the roof of the house and broke his leg. As there was no good physician he sent him to Aleppo. Having nobody in this town who would care for him we took him in.
