Yester
was exiled with her parents, two brothers and three sisters. They wandered ten
days in the mountains until they reached Derik. The caravan rested three days
in the open country. The following day the gendarms separated the men from the
women. In half an hour they exterminated hundreds of men before the eyes of
those they loved. Yester witnessed the slaughter and lost her parents, three
sisters and two brothers. A Kurd took her to his house, where she remained two
days only, then came a sheikh, Abdullah Tchelebi and took Yester for himself.
He brought her to Mardin, where she lived eleven years with this sheikh until
she was rescued by an Armenian Catholic priest who sent her to us.
