Her father died before the war. Her brother was teacher in the American Mission School and she was living with him. During the deportation of the Armenians, men were selected and killed. Anna's brother fled to a village near Harpoot and kept himself away from anybody.

Anna's mother and aunt were also in Harpoot and so Anna went to join them. Within a short time women and children were also deported. Anna with her mother and aunt went to their brother who was out in a village. After a few days the Turk proposed her to marry him promising her to keep her brother and mother. If she refuses, he will render her brother to the government. Anna being afraid married the man. The Turk kept his word and protected her brother until the end of the war. As Malatia seemed to be a difficult place for keeping him he sent him with some men to Dersim.

Anna, however, was living with the Turk all these years, with her kind love and Christian feelings succeeded in changing the character of her husband. By and by she did win, she had a great influence upon him. Her husband after the Armistice promised her to become Christian himself and both of them would leave Turkey for ever. In fact, they left Malatia and came to Syria. Here Anna met her mother who is living in Beirut. Her husband accompanied her to Beirut and looked around for a job but knowing no other language then Turkish he could not earn his living and was obliged to return to Turkey.

                  Anna remained by her mother.
