Deported with his mother and brothers until Sert where the whole caravan was killed. He was able to escape from the murders and reached a Kourdish village late in the evening. The village was composed of farmers, Edward came just in the busiest season. They were reaping wheat. A Kourd took Edward to his house in order to have a help. Edward was not badly treated by his master and so he remained there for two years. The Kurd was taken to the army and went to war against Russia but Edward could not stay any longer at this place, and he went to Mardin where he became a servant of Adjam Pasha. As he was treated very badly by his new master, he fled to Diarbeker. There he was put in prison for several days and set free because he had a Turkish name. He went on to Urfa and came from there to Aleppo.

His father is in America and his uncle in Constantinople.

Edward learned a trade and afterwards went to look up his relatives.
