Sarkis was deported with his parents and sister to Malatia. There the father was taken away and killed. The rest of the family were sent further on to Urfa. On the road they were attacked and robbed several times and they suffered terribly from hunger and thirst.

The caravan stayed 3 days in Urfa and was then sent to “Rakka”, where they encamped 3 months. Afterwards they were sent to Deir-el-Zor.

The most of the poor people were ill and no help was given to them.

One day an Arab took Sarkis to his tent and kept him as a shepherd one year. He then sold him to another Arab, where he remained 9 years. His master, who loved him, allowed him to marry an Armenian girl, who was kept as a slave in the village. But his mistress who was angry with Sarkis intended killing him and his wife. So they fled to Tel-Samen where an Armenian protected them, till he was able sending them to us.

Sarkis and Annig were married here in our house and their little daughter baptized May 21, 1925.
