Mariam was exiled with her parents, one brother and two
sisters to Deir-el-Zor, then again to Chaddadie. On the road an Arab named
Djessim el Hindi lay hold of Mariam, one of her sisters and her mother and
brought them to his tent. The tribe was then placed near Tenenir. Many years
they stayed with their possessor as slaves. One day an Armenian (boy) by name
Levon Bey came to Djassim and asked him to give the Armenian girls to him, that
he might bring them to an Armenian orphanage. Djassim gave Mariam's sister for
one £. After two years he sold Mariam for one sheep to an Arab £'Abeyd el
Jyase. Newly an Armenian boy Grigor Babikian from Zeitoon came and asked for
Mariam. He wanted to marry her. The Arab wanted 20 sheep for her which Grigor
gave. They both of them fled to Hassitshe. Our agent found them and sent them
to our home.
Left our care: October 22,
1927. Married to Grigor No. 1424.
