Deported until Isoli near Malatia, where his father was killed and the body thrown in the Euphrates. His stepmother gave him to a Kourd. With him he stayed till the harvest was finished, after which time the Armenian boys were gathered together, conducted to the mountains and killed. Serkis served his wife [saved his life] by hiding himself in a hollow tree and afterwards found a place by a Kurdish woman. 2½ years after she sold him for 2½ Oka tobaccos to a man, whose shepherd he was for 3 years. Then he was big enough to feel that he was an Armenian, and fled to Harpoot to the American orphanage. He was not accepted there, because they thought he was a Kourd, as he had forgotten his own language. A Turk took him as his servant and he stayed there for about a year, until he finally fled, and over Diarbeker and Mardin reached Aleppo.
His elder brother is in America.
