During the Armenian massacres, Hovhannes' father and elder brother were killed with most of the male people of Zeytoon.
The rest of the family and Armenians of Zeitoon were deported to Marash and Aintab and then conducted through the deserts to Der-el-Zor. After a rest of two months passed in misery these unhappy people were sent to the region of Hassitshe where all of them perished in a horrible way.
Hovhannes, however, left his mother and went to an Arab tribe and remained there during all the war until now. He had an opportunity to come to Der-el-Zor, once there he fled to the house of our agent. From there he was sent to us.
