After having killed her father the Turks deported
Makrouhi with her mother, grandmother and her two sisters Siranoush and
Vehanoush to Deir-el-Zor. The caravan was driven to and fro in the desert. Her
mother and grandmother succumbed on the road. Her sisters were by the gendarms
sold to some Arabs. One day Makrouhi's turn came. She was also given to an
Arab, Osman from Tabou.
Makrouhi grew up and Osman sold her to a Cheick from
Djebur by name Meslet for 35 Medjide. That man was the possessor of twelve
Armenian woman and girls. Four times Makrouhi tried to flee, but was overtaken
by her owner and brought back. One day she succeeded. A motor-car passed she
called out the Armenian chauffeur stopped took her in his carriage and brought
her safely to our rescue-home in Aleppo.
