PICTURE

Veronika's father and mother died on the road during the Armenian deportation. She with her two sisters and brothers arrived at Adana. There her two sisters were taken from her by Turks who married them.

Veronika and her brother went with the caravan on to Djbaoor. On their way through the Syrian desert they suffered terribly from hunger. Both of them were almost exhausted when an Arab came and took both of them to his tent. Several [??] after their arrival, the Arab sold her brother to a nomadic tribe and she could never get news about him. After three years she was married to an Arab from Anboo-Serail who sold her after five months to somebody else.

However, Veronika fled from her third "owner" and went to Der-el-Zor and worked several years as a servant in an Arab family. There again they wanted to marry her, but Veronika had knowledge of our Rescue-Station there and she fled to our agent's house who protected her and kept her there for several days until he sent her with an Armenian automobile driver to this city.
