Garabed's native country was attacked
and after a few months resistance destroyed by the regular troops of the
Turkish government. The inhabitants of the town were taken prisoners. Many of
them annihilated and many more were sent to perish in the Arabian deserts.
Garabed reached as far as Deir-el-Zor region, where he was taken by an Arab to
his tent and remained eleven years there. All this times he worked as a
shepherd. The Arab illtreated him and so Krikor decided to flee. At night he
reached Hassitshe where [he] met with our agent who sent him to us.
