In the beginning of the war the whole family composed of
father, mother, brother and sister, was deported to a village near Aintab. It
is needless to say to what sufferings and outrages they were exposed on the
road. It took them months before they reached Aintab. Arriving to the above
mentioned village, the father who had become ill on the road, died of
starvation. Two years later the mother died. Hagob remained all alone with his
sister among the Turks. Both of them were working for Hussein Effendi who kept
them as his servants and gave them food in reward for their services. Almost
two years ago they both were working outside the city in the fields of their
master, when a Turk from Aintab came on horseback and took the sister away by
force fleeing to the direction of Aintab. Hagob never heard what became of her.
A year ago he also went to Aintab, looking for his sister but he could not find
her. Lately the Turkish government was sending the Armenians over the frontier.
He became afraid thinking that he would become a soldier in the Turkish army.
At night he fled and crossed the Syrian frontier. Near the frontier however, he
was attacked by Turkish brigands who took everything from him. He came in raggs
to our Reception-house.
