In the beginning of the deporation of Armenian families, his father was killed by a Turk. Karnig, his mother, four brothers and sister were deported. At a distance of about four hours from their native town, the caravan was attacked, robbed and killed. Only boys of eight years were separated and taken to Kourdish villages, there all of them became servants of Kourds.
Karnig was for five years the shepherd of his Kourdish master. Later the Kourd became a soldier of the Turkish army and Karnig had a chance to flee. In fact, Karnig fled from the village and went to a town named Gemereg. There he became a farmer of rich Turk. In the same village, Karnig met another Armenian boy and together they fled at night and passed the Turkish frontier and came safely to this city.
