Zaven's father was killed in his
native country. He with his mother, one sister and one brother were exiled as
far as Dipsi, where his brother died and his sister was taken by the Arabs.
Mother and child were forced to continue their terrible journey. On reaching
Meskene the Kurds attacked the caravan and robbed all the money and clothings
which they had, then separating Zaven and his mother from the caravan they beat
both of them so terribly that they were unable to move forwards for eight days.
One day an Arab came and took them
to his house where Zaven's mother died, while he being recovered eleven years
with his master. Once he came on business to Bab, where he met with our agent
who sent him to us.
