Fehmi does not remember what
happened to his parents and relatives. Near Mardin he was taken by an Arab and
was brought to the same city. The Arab sold him to a Christian, named Habib.
The latter was not deported. He kept Fehmi for a long time and took care of
him. As his master was a tailor, he also learned the same trade. But, year
after year, Fehmi's master became more and more poor and was not able to keep
him longer, so he sent him away.
For some time the helpless boy
worked among the Turks, not withstand the ill-treatment by them.
Once
he was advised by an old Turk to leave the Turkish territory, to gain better
circumstances. He did so and reached Hassitshe from where by our agent he was
sent to us.
Left
