Efkaris was exiled with her parents
and one sister. Her brother went to Constantinople and hid himself there. It
took seven months to reach Aleppo from Broussa. On the road, near Islahie, her
sister was taken by a Kurd and her father died in Ras-el-Ain. Near the village
of Moza, between Mardin and Nisibin, a Kurd, paying some Medjidies to the
gendarms took her out of the caravan and brought to her to his village. After
some months he passed her on to another one, named Kheder Agha, to whom she was
forced to give herself as to a husband. In the course of time she got children
and for the sake of them she could not flee. Meanwhile her brother in
Constantinople made great efforts to save his sister. He had even gone himself
to Mardin for that cause, but, it was of no use. Finally we were informed about
the matter and succeeded in taking the poor woman out of the slavery. Now, she
feels herself happy to be restored again to her relatives and to her own
nation.
