The whole family was deported to
Marash and then to Aleppo whence to Deir-el-Zor. His mother died in Aleppo, his
father and brother were killed at a little distance to Deir-el-Zor. Harutiun
however was brought by an Arab to his village belonging to the Shammar tribe.
After three years the Aneze tribe
fell upon Shammar and plundered nearly 400 camels and more then thousand sheep
etc. Harutiun also came into the possession of the conquerors and was brought
into the tent of the chief of the whole tribe named Ibu Heddel. Harutiun grew
up as an Arab he had nothing to do but to go to hunting and to help his master
in the fights against the other tribes. Once he heard a talk about the
Armenians in Aleppo. So he remembered that he also was one of this nation and so
he decided to flee. He went to Hassitshe, from where by our agent was sent to
us.
