During the war time his father was killed. Hovhannes was deported with his mother and sister. On the road his mother became ill and died. The two little children were sent further on and came to Mardin where they were given to different Arab families. His sister was married with her Arab master and is still living with him.
Hovhannes was illtreated and fled to an Assyrian family where he remained for six years acting as a weaver. He was not satisfied with his living conditions and went to another family and was working two years in a tannery.
When he heard that the Armenian priest was sending orphans to Aleppo, he went to him and asked him to sent him to Aleppo. The Armenians priest sent him to our Der-el-Zor agent who sent him to us.
As far as we know he has no relatives.
