In the beginning of the general war
his father was a soldier in the Turkish army. He with his mother, one sister
and two brothers were deported with the caravan. On reaching Surudj, on the
banks of the river Euphrates, he lost his elder brother. In the village
Khanbantran he lost the second brother. While his mother and sister were forced
to go with the caravan, he hid himself in a corner and remained in the streets
of the village Ser-bor. There a man named Hadjo-el-Ismael took him to his house
and kept for eleven years during which time he was employed as an agricultural
laborer. Once he came on business to Surudj where he was informed about the
Armenians in Aleppo. He did not return to his master but came straight to Arabpounar
whence by our agent he was sent to our reception-house.
