In the beginning of the
deportation he had been with his relatives in a neighbouring town. He was
exiled with them in the direction of Rakka. Arriving there, he met with his
parents, who also were exiled in the same direction. The caravan left Rakka for
going on to Deir-el-Zor. On the road it was attacked by a band of Arabs, who
robbed the people and killed many of them. Mesia lost his parents and lived
here and there, till he reached Adana. A Turkish countryman saw him and took
Mesia with him. The miseries which the friendless boy suffered were unbearable.
At last, Mesia made an attempt
to reach Djarablous and succeeded. Our agent sent him to us, seeing his
pitiable condition.
