Tovmas was deported with his parents
and one brother to Diarbekir. After a little rest in that town, the caravan was
sent further on to the region of Mardin and they were conducted through the
desert as far as Deir-el-Zor. After a rest of a few months passed in misery,
the unhappy people were sent to the region of Hassitshe where they perished in
many horrible ways. Tovmas being deeply wounded on his shoulder, passed the
night among the dead bodies. The following day the Arab women came to rob the
dead hoping to find some precious things or money upon them. One of them saw
Tovmas still living and she took him to her house. He remained eleven years
with the Arab family. Once the tribe camped near Deir-el-Zor, then he fled to
the city. Our agent was informed and sent him to Aleppo.
Tovmas
went to fetch his brother but did not return.
