Verkines' father was killed in his native town. Her three brothers were taken to the Turkish Army and she, her mother and sister were deported with her brothers wife and family. On the road to Mezre, Verkine was taken by a Turk from her relatives, and brought to Malatia. The Turk adopted her as his daughter and married her later to one of his friends.

Verkine was married against her will to a Turk in Malatia. From the first day she looked for a chance to flee but she could not succeed. She asked her Armenian neighbour to help her to escape. The Armenian asked her if she wanted to go to Aleppo when she said yes he took her to his house and kept her several weeks. After he engaged a Turkish muleteer to take her to Aleppo. The Turk knew about her plan of escape and sent soldiers to prevent her flight, but the muleteer was a brave fellow and protected her against the agressors by fighting against them many hours. He finally had the victory against them and brought her safely to us.-

Being separated from her relatives since 1915 and having absolutely no news from them she is unable to state if she has any relatives.
