Perouz may have been but four years old in the time of
deportation, therefore she does not remember anything about her parents or her
birthplace. She has always stayed among the Turks in Diarbekir by a family
named Emin Bey. Last year she was forced to marry a son of Emin Bey. One day
she said: I do not understand that you married me to my brother? Emin Bey then
told her that she was an Armenian and that he had taken her out of a caravan
many years ago. Perouz resolved to flee and a chance soon offered itself. Newly
Emin Bey went to Aleppo with his whole family to celebrate a feast. Perouz
succeeded in shipping out of the house and reaching an Armenian family, who
advised her to go to our home. She is happy to be in a safe harbour.
