PICTURE

Zeytoon people were deported to Marash. His family too, Simon's mother died there a few days after her arrival. The caravan of deportation was sent further on to Khaboor, a town near Der-el-Zor. In Khabur his father was killed with some other Armenians by Arabs who attacked the caravan. On their way to Der-el-Zor, Arabs came and selected several children from the caravan and took them to their tents and made servants out of them.

Simon was taken to one tribe and his sister to another one. In this way they lost communication and no one of them had ever had any news from each others. Simon became a shepherd of the Arab. Once being with the flock in the desert another Arab of a different tribe came and forced him to follow him. Simon became in this way the slave of another tribe, and remained nine years there working again as a shepherd. However an automobile was passing in the district of Simon's place. The car stopped to fill water in the radiator and Simon approached to see motor-car. The driver who was an Armenian asked him about his nationality and found out that he was an Armenian.

The chauffeur took him in his car and went to Moussoul. There he delivered Simon to the Armenian chuch, from there he was sent to our agent in Der-el-Zor and finally reached Aleppo.

As far as we know he has no relatives.
