PICTURE
The fate of this poor girl has been very sad, she was in fact rescued from a brothel, and sadder still, she had been brought thither by her own mother.
The poor woman has suffered much during and after the war, that has wrought upon her mind and after the death of her husband she finally gave up her honour and her conscience and went to the brothel.
Other Armenian women living in this horrible place, still had so much feeling of decency left that they could not bear to see the little girl there, they brought her to the church.
Afterwards we took charge of her and the mother now has no claim upon her whatever. But still of course she is her mother. She might use every kind of subtle means to lay hold of her child, for which reason we thought it more suitable to place Djemile in an orphanage in another part of the country, and Miss Frearson very kindly received her in her home.
Djemile is now is Miss Frearson's orphanage in Beyrouth, supported from "Friends of Armenia".
