Mariam grew up among Turks, whom she believed were her
parents and own people. One day some children told her that she was a
"Giaur". From that time she was longing to join her own nation and
soon the occasion came.
One day an Armenian young man visited the village, she
asked him for help. He did so and they reached Erzerum, where they were
married. How happy she was, but after a few months the Turk broke into the
house and carried her away. Yet after some time her husband succeeded in
bringing her back again. Newly her husband was taken as a soldier, and she had
to flee with some Armenians to Syria.
Left our care: August 19,
1929. We found her husband here.
