Heghine's father died before the deportation, she was deported with her family. On the road to Malatia she lost all her relatives excepting her little brother. She found a place as a servant in the Turkish orphanage and she was allowed to bring her brother there. Later she found some Turkish woman who gave her the same job under better conditions, so she went there. She lived seven years in this Turkish family.
When Armenians started to leave Turkey, caravans of refugees were passing the town. Heghine asked her mistress to let her join such a leaving party of Armenians, the latter agreed and so Heghine took her brother and came to this city.
