The father of this boy died during the Great War. His
mother was deported with Penekis and three daughters. The caravan passed Agin
and Arabkir. There a Turk named Sari Ali took hold of him. His mother and
sisters were driven further on. Penekis does not know what happened to them. He
stayed six months with the Turk. Afterwards, the government sent him with
another caravan of deportation to Malatia. Near Malatia he was erring along
among unknown people. A Turk took him to his village where he lived almost
twelve years working very hard for his master. Penekis however always
remembered his being an Armenian. He fled at last and came with some muleteers
to Syria and to our Rescue-Home.
